Garmin Forerunner 110 Review
A lot of people have stayed away from Garmin’s sports watches because they’ve been so complex. Garmin is trying to address these concerns and appeal to a larger audience with the Garmin Forerunner 110.
This watch provides only some very basic features such as distance, time and pace. It even looks simple resembling a basic digital watch rather than a training time piece. Instead of looks the attraction of the Forerunner is its’ simplicity.
A person should be able to check pace and distance in a few seconds using this watch. That makes a pretty good model for joggers and swimmers that don’t want to spend a lot of time fooling around with a watch.
It can also be used in conjunction with heart rate monitors. This would be a good watch for a person that’s new to training watches or somebody getting back into jogging. As with most of the current training watches it can be used to calculate heart rate and calorie computation.
Features
The Garmin Forerunner 110 comes in a very basic plastic case and plastic band. The watch features a pink or red stripe that doesn’t look that adds little to its look. The watch’s face is large but some of the lettering on it looks a little hard to read.
The HotFix satellite prediction feature is supposed to lock onto satellites quickly. Some reviewers claim this locks onto satellites quickly. The high sensitivity GPS receiver is supposed to stay locked on even when the satellite is blocked by a tree or a building. At least online reviewer noted that this feature didn’t work while swimming.
Like a lot of the current watches, the Garmin Forerunner 110 lets a person collect data while they are running and retrieve it later. It can also be uploaded onto a PC or Mac. To do this you will need to go to a website called the Garmin Connect. This can let people see a route of their jog and a summary of workout data.
Simplicity
t looks like Garmin is trying to get runners and others to start using GPS watches with this model. It is billed as an entry level model but its price is still around $200 for the basic model. The basic model features watch only and this price does seem a little steep.
Some more complex models including one that features a heart rate monitor sell for around $250. These models come in women’s pink and men’s red designs.
Persons looking for a more complex multifunction sports watch could be disappointed by the Garmin Forerunner 110. Those who want a basic training watch should definitely take a look at this model.
